Liner Notes

Well can you say here we go again? Well as you can see last year's "Welcome To The x502x" 7" was a success because here I am bringing you the second installment of the x502x series, "The x502x Strikes Back", featuring Truce, XINVICTUSX], Flight Nineteen, and Standard Issue. Truce is from the south side of Louisville and newest to the scene of all the bands on the comp. They are very promising and you can expect big things from them. Check out their demo if you can. Flight 19 is from Louisville also bringing you their unique blend of hardcore. Standard Issue, a veteran from last year's comp, have been busy. they have done a demo and a 7" called "As We Grow" - 9 songs on one 7", that's what I call hardcore! The other veteran, Xinvictusx, will be calling it a day with this 7". This song is from their last recording session and will be performing their last show at this record's release. Since the last record that have released an 18 song CD called "Never Forget Your Commitment" which is still available. In case you did not know, the x502x series of 7"s are given away free at a show that the above bands played on April 5, 1998. The idea is to give small local bands exposure that they desperately need. The bands are icked more on the emphasis of friendship than on record sales. All the bands know each other and friends. they are happy to know they can share their view of the world and life on this small 7" piece of vinyl. And I am proud to bring you this great sampler of bands from the land of x502x. Finally here is the collecting breakdown - 200 on gree-white swirl, 300 on black. - xJimX

More and more i find myself becoming disillusion with just about everything. it's hard to motivate myself to get up in the morning let alone do another project. However 2 Steps Forward is a positive type label, which is something I'm trying very hard to live up to at the present. Sometimes I wonder how when the whole world is blackness, Jim however cna still have the courage to try to create light? So for now, if just one other has the courage to fight, then i have no right to give up either.
So, i'm gonna wander here, in the way that i tend to and try to address some concerns.
The name of the record "The x502x Strikes Back" reminds me of why Jim and I liked using the 502 in association with the records. You see, over time, Louisville has developed a pretty good reputation for having a hardcore scene. it also had a lot of scene community feeling. but then it kinda turned out that it became an elitist thing. It seems that some of the louisville scene didn't think kids from the surrounding scenes were cool enough. So suddenly kids who had been wearing Louisville sXe shirts a year ago now felt unwelcome for whatever reason. To explain in short the scene here is kind of like taking a whole mirror and crushing it with a sledge hammer what you get is hundreds of fragments. you know what? While a whole mirror has some use, fragments are useless. That's exactly true for hardcore. If despite all the differences we can't find common ground, we're useless. I don't have an answer and i'm just as much a divisive asshole as anyone. but i want to take a step and recognize the problem. Anyway, here's what 502 means - it doesn't matter if you're from downtown Louisville or Henry County - it includes everyone. it's a small step in including a common bond instead of a dividing line. In the grand scheme it means nothing. But to me, symbolism means a lot. On this record you're gonna find a wide variety of bands who you probably wouldn't have heard without this release - because they aren't popular enough or they don't know the right people. And to me that's the best part. Hardcore is about helping your friends and other people out: Regardless if you're gonna sell 6 copies or 6000. Well, that's it. It's time for sudden death Air Hockey.

P.S. I love Truce.
