Nixon began in May 2004 as a side project featuring Tony Ash and Doug Walker of The Royalty and Brian Foor of Tyrone. After the breakup of both The Royalty and Tyrone, Matt Haas and Matt Jaha were brought into the Nixon lineup on vocals and guitar, respectively.

Brian decided to leave the band after only a handful of local shows, leaving Doug and Haas to search for a replacement while Tony and Jaha were on a month long tour with their other band, Coliseum. Surprisingly, they found their drummer while on this tour....Eric McManus, of Philadelphia's Lickgoldensky.
