River City Wrestling Federation

From Louisville Punk/Hardcore History

The River City Wrestling Federation was nothing more than an excuse for a handful of nutty punk kids to beat the tar out of each other while their friends screamed drunken encouragement. It began at the Bird House off Goldsmith Lane around 1996 (?) and had its final event at the Douglass Community Center around 1997 (?).

There were a few infamous matches ... there was a Bird Brothers vs. The Wild Boar and The Savage tag-team match; a "Killer Miller" vs. Bryce Shell match (a videotape exists); a match between Billy Petot and Ryan Stratton (a videotape exists), a match between Garrett and some guy named Curry (a video exists); and an elimination tournment with The Savage (managed by "Mr. Civilized"), "Killer Miller," Beanie, and Dom Bosco (photographs exist). The funny part about this tournament is that several people were invited to participate but backed out at the last second. Mark Brickey showed up wearing a glam wrestler's outfit but when he found out that we would be actually fighting, he quickly backed out.

The rules were simple: anything was allowed except for kicks and punches (no one wanted to lose teeth). Chokeholds, throws, atomic drops from couches ... everything else was go.

The match between Curry(the bass player for Intravenous De Milo) and Smellybutt Fucker also bears mention. I know a tape exists of this classic match in which Smellybutt was knocked unconcious by one of the most brutal moves ever seen in a RCWF match. It was some kind of Suplex/Power Bomb hybrid that shook the entire house. The all time most brutal match was the Savage vs Dom Bosco at the Douglass Center event in which a thouroughly possessed Savage broke Dom's NECK by simply and visciously clinging to it for something like fifteen minutes.
