A dude named Joe Gayles bought a strip club downtown at 211 South 3rd street and named it the Carnival Club, he did some shows there then bought a bigger building on Main St. and called it The Beat Club (or 'The Beat') for short. Apparently there was some cocaine (it's a hell of a drug) issues going around and the place didn't stay open for very long.
