The Defector

This was a zine created to enable people to learn layout, interview, and editing. The focus was on whatever the writers wanted to do a story on. The zine was founded by Maryam MirRiahi after she left Brat Magazine (hence the name). The two camps were quite divided at some points, yet still shared some staff members.
The zine ran for 5 issues from 1998 to early 2000. In the end, it was primarily a zine that covered the local music scene. There were some politics, but not primarily.
