This scene has brought together many intriguing combinations, perhaps none more innovative than electronic composer and drummer Alex O'Nan and former hardcore guitarist Kyle Noltemeyer. Together as Interstates, they weave richly textured, progressive ambient music and colorful programing with live instrumentation. For their live performances O'Nan has synchronized with each song a series of short films that feature scenes from his journeys as a railroad conductor. Interstates possesses a rare chemistry that draws from Noltemeyer's days in Louisville hardcore bands Guilt and Endpoint, and O'Nan's development as a composer of electronic music who was searching for a way to bring a live performance aspect to his art. The two had a long standing friendship that blossomed during seven years of playing together in the angular rock band of Asaph (myspace.com/ofasaph). After quickly winning over Louisville music lovers, Interstates has signed with the Kansas City, MO label The Record Machine (www.therecordmachine.net). Fresh off the heels of their newly released debut album Run, Run, Interstates is ready to take their unique, stirring live show to audiences near and far. They deliver everything from ambient soundscapes to delay-heavy synth patterns to everyone who enters their wall of sound. "It's a meaningful thing for us to be doing something together as great friends but also as musicians," O'Nan says. "If we weren't playing music, we'd be feeling it and craving it."
