Evan Bailey (drums, keyboard & vocals), Jeremy Irvin (guitar & vocals; and head of Landmark Recordings), and Carrie Neumayer (guitar & vocals) are all singers and songwriters, who together create fuzzed-out and ethereal Indie Pop full of harmonies. The three began Second Story Man in 1998 and put out a split EP with The Helgeson Story in 1999 and a four song EP in 2000 called "Weddings, Parties, Sympathy", both on Jeremy Irvin's own Landmark Recordings. The EP featured a new member: singer/ songwriter/ bass player Kelly Scullin, who’d previously played in Litmus and with Neumayer and Bailey in Itch House. In 2001, the two women in the band applied for and won a $3,000 artistic enrichment grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women to record and manufacture an album, Pins And Needles. In May of 2004, after Second Story Man completed a tour as the opening act for Sebadoh, Kelly Scullin left the band.
