Nixon began in May 2004 as a side project featuring Tony Ash and Doug Walker of The Royalty and Brian Foor of Tyrone. After the breakup of both The Royalty and Tyrone, Matt Haas and Matt Jaha were brought into the Nixon lineup on vocals and guitar, respectively.
Brian decided to leave the band after only a handful of local shows, leaving Doug and Haas to search for a replacement while Tony and Jaha were on a month long tour with their other band, Coliseum. Oddly enough, they had the perfect candidate with them on tour and didn't even realize it for weeks; Eric McManus was the drummer extraordinaire for Philadelphia's noisecore veterans Lickgoldensky. When LGS unexpectedly broke up early into the tour, Eric and LGS's guitarist Jamie opted to finish out the tour with their new two-piece project, Gods and Queens. Tony eventually passed the Nixon demo to Eric. He loved what he heard, and immediately offered to play drums, coming into town one or two weekends a month to practice and play local shows. The band currently has plans to tour this winter.
With nods to bands such as Rye Coalition, the Stooges, Black Sabbath, the Jesus Lizard, Hoover, Iron Maiden, Black Flag, fellow Louisvillians The National Acrobat, and even very early Guns N' Roses, Nixon turns their battered, beaten tube amplifiers up to 11 and sucker punch you in the stomach with a wall of dirty, sarcastic, speedfreak punk rock and/or roll chaos.
