1) Associated with Straight Edge. When someone breaks a commitment, I.E. was straight edge but now drinks. Can be associated with many things, such as Vegetarianism and Veganism.

2) Associated with the idea of a band or person tossing aside their beliefs, personality, whatever in order to make it big in the music "business" or something else that punk and hardcore have traditionaly stood against.
