Parlour is the brainchild of Tim Furnish. I remember when I saw them in 1997 on Derby Day with Trans Am, Don Caballero, and Operation: Reinformation at the Toy Tiger and being blown away. I was like, "Wow, it's like Crain meets Aerial M!" Little did I know that that lineup was essentially that very thing. It's always been very tumultuous but Tim has a very peculiar/unique sense of composition from tonal choices to texture. Parlour is very much his own child. The lineup is always shifting it seems, which slows us down incredibly. You can see the full evolution at the Parlour website as Tim has a neat little detailed lineup chart.
We have played a lot of fun shows, but not enough all ages shows for my taste. The biggest show was for a few thousand at the Metro playing with Mogwai. I was drunk and it was fun heckling the hipsters for not shaking their asses. We have played a few shows out of town, a weekend stint with the lovely Bellini was particularly memorable.
The current lineup is recording soon for an EP to be released in April. We're touring for a couple weeks in January and again in March for another couple weeks hopefully, with a band called Mono. This is good because we haven't played enough out of town. Tim is a dear friend and Parlour is, and probably always will be, a beautiful dysfunctional monster. But I'm proud to be a part of it.
