A not-so-small review of my (Bryan V) night:

Started off at Keswick. No one besides bands and a couple of others there, and no change for $20s, so I loaded up the car with hardcore kids and hit Diahrehha Bell. Was gone an hour, and the show still hadn't started when we returned. Shroyuken played without their vocalist, much tighter than when they were OMGHAXORS0101 or whatever. Fun. Equal And Ultra played next to a much emptier room (everyone was out back drinking or something), but played well. One of the tighter shows I've seen w/o Chubbs. Seemingly too loud for the PA though. Teen Pregnancy! beefed their shit and didn't play. Or as the handwritten sign at the door said.. "Teen Preggers broked up." (even though they didn't i don't think). Two Minutes Lost played after a spate of costume pictures. You can tell they grew quite a bit in their absence. Probably one of the better sounding, tighter shows I ever saw them play, and it was all in costume too! It went on a bit long as the show needed to be done by 11, but Nixon kicked into gear and went at it. I think there were only 6-8 people watching them at this point as everyone had shrimp-dicked out causing me to yell "If you're leaving... you're a poser!!!". Lots of posers.

The show was being packed up as I hit The Mag Bar and fucked around for a half hour or so trying to get more costume pictures (Sam was She-Hulk and Jared was THE Hulk) and seeing who wanted to go to The Dead Church... As we left, we found out that the 'bourbon had been broken into. So... that was unfortunate.

Hit the Portland show as Arch was in the middle of blasting out the ORGASMO theme song. Fuck yeah. a fair number of people, but not half as much as we expected. Upstairs pretty much looked like a fuckin' middle-school mixer with the boys on one side and the girls on the other and a HUGE gap in the center. Everyone was sitting down or standing sipping shit and staring at each other, pretty much only acknowledging the band by talking louder than normal. Well, that's not fair.. there were some people cheering and laughing at the cover. After that, they busted out "Red", "Lay Down & Die", and "Freeze" - all Kinghorse tunes. Sadly, although there was some clapping, there wasn't a heck of a lot of evidence that anyone knew the stuff. Kristen was bouncing around singing along in the empty "pit", I was up front against the stage yelling, and some lady (er.. Wanda i think??) was up there too taking pictures. The mixer crowd was seemingly not impressed, but I left happier than a pig covered in piss, shit, AND food... and left we did less than 5 minutes after arch ended. The atmosphere kinda sucked.

p.s. I took video of "Red" w/ my digital camera, but it wasn't great... I saw an 8 track hooked up to the sound board, and would REALLY like to get a copy if anyone knows how. Nathan (at the front table) told me who to talk to, but the people I drive were really ready to leave. -Bryan Volz 03:49, 30 Oct 2005 (EST)

HallowedFest...

This show was... interesting. Better than we (Morning Belle) expected. We were one of only three bands that weren't metalcore. There was a good number of kids, many of which seemed like decent people. The show was run well, with two stages at either end of the warehouse. Other than me breaking a string and the power cutting off once, it was a decent show. I'm not sure if people dug us or not, but they stuck around and didn't go outside, which was nice.
