Step Down was the band that existed before Guilt. The members had been playing together, with Duncan sitting in to watch practices a few times. When they got on a show (a party), they were still short a singer, and asked Duncan if he was familiar enough with the songs to step in, and he did, not having a single lyric to anything. Noone could tell, and if they did, they didn't make it apparent, as the band was a hit. They played out for awhile until Duncan came to practice ready to quit in favor of a new band where he could sing more about his personal state of being than politics that he wasn't sure the whole band embraced. Thus, Guilt was born.
