History

(ohlm) began in 2004 in Louisville initially as The Synaptic Dissent, with the original lineup being Nate McDaniel and Jay Brafford on guitar, J.R. Sparks on keys and media, James Gill on bass and Steve Lawson on drums. In late 2008, after years of writing and other endeavors in music, Synaptic is reformed as (ohlm), with longtime friend and fellow musician Josh Ricci on drums. Immediately work began on re-writing old material and developing new music. Ohlm was then rounded off with the addition of Dave Roberts on bass, then the return of J.R. Sparks on keys.

Once the lineup was rounded out, (ohlm) began performing more shows be it with locals or touring acts. Over the years the band managed to share the stage with the likes of Corrosion of Conformity, High on Fire and Wolves in The Throne Room among others. While the band largely played in their native Louisville, they would often drift out to other cities, namely touring briefly with Below in their early years. (ohlm) managed to release their first album The Synaptic Dissent in September 2010 with a second album Centralia A.D. following three years later.

(ohlm) would ease up their live activity in the latter parts of the 2010s, largely as a support to touring artists. In late 2019 the band would release Children of Orion, their first release in five years. A fourth studio album in Kholat Syakhl would follow the next year. The band would begin performing numerous shows throughout 2021 and 2022, including a tour with StormToker circa October 2022. A follow-up tour was set for the Fall of 2023 with StormToker as new material was in the works.

(ohlm) will celebrate their fifteenth anniversary in August 2024 at Planet of The Tapes.
