Sacred Sorrow

From Louisville Punk/Hardcore History

Formed in February of 2003, 4 inspired musicians came together with one goal in mind; to create a band with intensity, theatrics and passion that the world had yet to see. The 4 created, Sacred Sorrow. The band created a 5 track demo in a matter of two months selling over 500 copies in their native area of Louisville, KY. Through this the band easily became one of Louisville fastest growing local bands. After two years of continuous playing and many demos later, in 2005 Sacred Sorrow landed a small recording contract with independent label; ‘Wounded Records”. From which they released their first album, “Deliver us from Evil.”

After selling 1,000 copies of ‘Deliver Us from Evil’, the band suffered line-up changes. Once their contract had expired with ‘Wounded Records’ they chose not to renew with another contract. The band had spent a year with the label, they finally came to the realization that friction would only rise due to their style change if they were to remain on a hardcore music label.

Sacred Sorrow spent months in hiding, writing all new material. Rumors flew that Sacred Sorrow was no more, but Sacred Sorrow made their comeback at their annual Halloween show; ‘HallowedFest’. Embracing their sense of humor and dark personality, they took their love for Halloween and Horror movies on stage. Debuting with a new sound and look, the band instantly reclaimed their place in the music scene and began touring heavily.

After countless interviews and shows with the local rock radio stations, Sacred Sorrow began to make a name for themselves without the help of a record label. After winning a grueling twelve week long contest Sacred Sorrow won studio time, and completed a 5 track EP titled “A Prelude To Betrayal”.

The EP was released on 7-7-07; a date set a year in advance by the band. The EP introduced fans to a darker and matured Sacred Sorrow. Drawing from the energetic roots of Punk Rock and New Wave, Sacred Sorrow created their own sound that is often described as “Gothic Punk”.

Since the release, the EP has generated a buzz throughout the region. With the help of Sacred Sorrow’s dedicated fan base; ‘The Camarilla Black’, their reputation continues to grow as being one of the most intense and original live bands.
