Talk:The Royalty
My favorite Royalty show was in Bloomington, In in the early part of 2004. After they played, we were trying to load the equipment into the back of the suburban when some very drunk girl came up (barely able to stand up straight), and was talking to Mike Ley (who's house the show was at). After some off-color jokes at her expense, she (rather flirtingly) grabbed Kuert's hat and ran off. He walked after her pleading for his hat, and when he finally caught up with her, he grabbed the hat and pushed her back so she couldn't take it again. Her drunk ass went into a bush, and because she was clothed like some fashion victim/model (aka short skirt/half-t-shirt), she got kinda banged up... especially after she got out of the bush screaming, and got pushed back in... 3 or 4 times. Everyone in the Royalty just stood there not sure what the hell to do... whether to laugh or grab Kurt and run. Eric and I went to the other side of the suburban thinking "If we don't see it, it's not happening... FUCK!" In a matter of minutes, 4-5 douche bags who wanted to act ultra-macho and take the drunk girl home to get with her came up to pick a fight with Kurt, who laughed them off. I had already told them I'd take them all on earlier in the evening because they were breaking bottles in the basement, and once they realized it might end up being a fair fight instead of their 4-5 on 1 (Kurt), they backed off, just as the girl ran into the house to try to gather support by lying that Kurt punched her in the face. We all wanted to leave, but couldn't as the back of the suburban wouldn't close due to the overkill amount of equipment that the band brought. they ended up riding back to Louisville that night with the back window down, enjoying temperatures around 35 degrees. - Bryan Volz
Another good one was when Redhanded played with them and Angelville (Indianapolis) in Bowling Green, KY at Western, KY University. They ended up playing after Redhanded and Angelville, and all the kids were ready for more fast paced hardcore stuff... and got nothing like what they expected. The Royalty played amazingly, but unnerved everyone there with their inbetween song banter (as always) and Syd acting like there was no crowd, and going and sitting indian-style in front of people (while playing) so that his head was right in their crotch or just walking circles around them. It was hilarious because the kids would nervously just look straight forward, trying to act like he wasn't there at all. I guess they figured he'd bite if they showed fear. After the show, they all went to Denny's with Shawn (who set up the show) and convinced him that Syd's dad just died a horrible death (which wasn't true, but hilarious) - Bryan Volz
