Underground Sounds

From Louisville Punk/Hardcore History

Underground Sounds operating since September 11 1996, has been at the forefront of providing Louisville with Greatful Dead, Bob Marley, and the biggest Blues section of any record store in the United States. As of 2024 it's the longest active record store in Louisville. Underground would move out of their original Baxter Ave. location to Barret Ave in July 2019, with a much bigger space. In May 2024, Underground Sounds was initially announced to close down but is set to move again in the Germantown area across from Atrium Brewing.

Along with Craig and Tony, there have been several volunteers and renegade employees over the years such as David Jarboe, Daisy, Tyler Chanley, Sean Liter, Joey Mudd, Cory Fusting, Johnny Hubbard and Derek Soete among others.

Underground Sounds also used to host special block party shows at their original location in line with Record Store Day, which featured performers such as Tropical Trash, New Bravado and U.S. Christmas.
